Super hot in Oaxaca Mexico!
Rachel Sears joined Wendy Ingraham, Lori Bowden, Andrea Fisher and Tereza Macel in the pro field of the Mexico Half-Ironman on 5/17.  Treated with 80 degree ocean temperatures and beautiful views, athletes were challenged with some of the most brutal racing conditions on the planet.  Race start time was an early 6:30 am, but it didn't take long for the mercury to rise. By the run, athletes faced temperatures ranging from 105-112 degrees. Toss in the extreme humidity and the Mexico Half made Kona weather seem like a cool summer day. Rachel finished 5th place in her first international triathlon race. Pictures/race story to follow.

5/22/03 - Hypercat-Hind Ultra Runners take top honors.
Bill Walz and Ethan Veneklasen posted impressive results at the
Lost Boys 50 miler in Anza Borrego. Bill finished a superb 2nd place in the men 30-39 age group/ 13th overall. Teammate, Ethan showed his form with a 4th place in the men 30-39 and 19th overall finish.
Read their complete race report here.

Hypercat / Hind runner, Ammon McNeely also competed last weekend.
Results and race story from Ammon's race at the Ohlone 50k are forthcoming.

Kristin Higgins shines in Napa!
Congratulations to Kristin, completing her first race of the season, the Napa Valley Triathlon. Kristin swam .5 mile, cycled 17 and ran 4 miles to the finish. Kristin, mom of little Lauren, shows that no matter how crazy the day gets, there is always room to train. Great job Kristin!

-Randy Frederickson, just having finished the Boston marathon weeks earlier, endured some tough moments, but rose to occasion and learned invaluable lessons for future races. Great job, Randy.
-Laura Cuda, competed on a stellar relay team as the team cyclist. Laura had a tremendous ride in spite of the slow race conditions. Wind, driving rain and a chill in the air, did little to slow down Laura and her speedy self. Way to fly, Laura!
-Chuck Morganson, had a phenomenal performance...taking over a hour off of his '02 Wildflower Long Course race.  Chuck will again take on Ironman USA in Lake Placid, joining Hypercats, Mark Fleming and Ray Peveri. Chuck you are awesome!

Unfortunately a derailleur problem detected within shouting distance of T-1,  left Rachel with a 2-3 gears in the small ring and no big ring gears for the 56 mile rolling course. Rachel ended her race after the bike. She will be racing again on 5/24 in Mexico at the Mexico Half-Ironman.
