8/28/03
More Hypercat Triathlon Wins.
Drina Boban is coming into peak form. Drina won the TriOne Sprint triathlon
in Alameda, CA on 8/24. She did it in convincing fashion with blazing swim, bike and run splits.

Kevin Kennedy topped his M25-29 age group stealing the show with a 1st place win at the Santa Barbara Long Course triathlon. 

Jason Spong (South Africa) wins ITU Duathlon World Championships for M25-29.

ITU Duathlon World Championships set for this Weekend.
Edith Chan returns to the duathlon short course world championships for the 4th time representing Team USA. Edith will compete as a member of Team USA in the 10k / 40k / 5k event this weekend in Afflotern, Switzerland.

8/28/03 Coaching Tigers.
Rachel Sears is the new assistant Cross Country Coach for the Boys and Girls Teams at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco. Rachel will assist Head Coach, Blake Respini and Coach Jeff Gardner is preparing the harriers for their fall race schedule.

Folsom International Triathlon
Hypercats, Kevin Kennedy and Jamie Sandidge enjoyed the challenging Olympic
distance course. Kevin scorched the course posting the fastest bike and run splits for the M25-29 age group, taking 1st place M25-29.

Jamie, riding strong on her new, Calfee, had a solid race in the competitive F25-29 age group. Jamie average 19mph over 40k for the bike overcoming a rough swim and went on to run to a 14th place age group finish. Jamie now has her sights on preparing for the California International Marathon in December.

Bigfoot Ironman Triathlon - Harrison Hot Springs, Canada
Massachusetts' Kevin Stevens took on his first Ironman event with a super 13:10 time. Congratulations Kevin.

Vineman Half-Ironman
Dr. Hal Rosenberg
and Drina Boban represented the Hypercat family at Santa Rosa's Half-Vineman triathlon. Dr. Hal, busy with his chiropractic patients and career, shows that you can train on limited time and still have success. Dr. Hal finished strong with a 5:21:27.5. Way to go Hal! The Big Kahuna Half-Ironman is Santa Cruz is Dr. Hal's next Half IM.

Drina Boban, a short course specialist, showed that even 'just having fun' she can really cruise. Drina's finish time, 5:20:46.0, included a PR 1.2 mile swim. Drina's upcoming events include the TriOne Sprint Triathlon and the Los Angeles Triathlon. Congrats Drina!

Mt. Shasta Century
Kevin Kennedy
and Rachel Sears moved their training grounds to the mountainous terrain of Mt. Shasta. The Hypercats tackled the 100 mile event which included 10,500' of climbing. Unsettled weather including torrential downpours, thunder and lightning made this training day one to remember.
Kevin is still trying to get long course training out of his blood and he prepares to qualify for the ITU Triathlon Championships. Rachel is continuing her preparation for her first Ironman this November.

Marin Century
Super cyclist, Mari Collings showed that she is one tough woman. Mari rode the Marin Metric Century and enjoyed every mile. In fact, she can't wait to do her next one and is planning to ride another century next month. Before we know it, Mari will be thinking about RAAM!

Rachel wins Golden Trails Marathon!
Starting in Tilden Park and ending in Lake Chabot, the 26.2 mile footrace was conducted in conjunction with the Dick Collins Firetrail 50 miler Ultra Marathon. The Golden Hills Marathon featured 4,000' of climbing over rugged terrain.

Please note updated Hypercat Racing Clinic Policies:

1) Clinic fees are due within 72 hours of registration submission.
2) Your clinic registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment.  
3) Clinic fees are non-refundable.
4) A waiver must be signed prior to participation in clinic.
5) Requests to 'move' to a different clinic date than originally requested may be accommodated, but will incur a $10 fee.
6) Roads can not be closed for the clinics. Anything clinic participant pulled over and/or cited by local authorities/police for improper conduct, breaking the law will be banned from subsequent Hypercat clinics.

Beach Blanket Duathlon and Triathlon in Santa Cruz.
The folks at By The Beach Productions are offering up another top shelf local event in Santa Cruz on October 12, 2003. The Beach Blanket Triathlon and Duathlon features stunning views of Monterey Bay for athletes competing in these off-road events. The triathlon is a 1k swim / 5k run / 20k MTB and the duathlon is a 5k run / 20k MTB.

USAT announces qualifiers for 2004 ITU Duathlon Long Course World Championships to be held in Denmark the weekend of July 31st - August 1st, 2004. T
wo additional events will be named shortly that will also be used as qualifiers but held after January 2004

Powerman Tennessee Oct 12, 2003 (2003 USAT Duathlon Long Course National Championship) 6 slots   - Roll down to 12th place.

Also, USA Triathlon would like to officially announce the Great Buckeye Challenge slated for Aug 2004, as the  USAT Duathlon Long Course National Championship (see www.hfpracing.com). This event will be the first qualifier race for the 2005 ITU Duathlon Long Course World Championships  yet to be named.

Hill Climbing Level 1 clinic added to clinic schedule.

Big Results at Big Kahuna!
On Sunday, Hypercat athletes, Kerry McIntosh, Kimberly Hall, Hal Rosenberg and Rachel Sears took on the elements at the Big Kahuna Half-Ironman in Santa Cruz. The second year event, managed by First Wave Events, consisted of a 1.6 mile ocean swim, 56 mile out and back bike and 13.1 run on mixed surfaces.
Kerry and Kimberly were first time half-ironman finishers in 6:19:35 and 6:09:02 respectively.  The always popular, Dr. Hal, finished strong in 5:35:53. Hypercat coach, Rachel, finished 2nd overall in 4:52:08 

Los Angeles Triathlon
Also mixing it up on the race scene Sunday, was Hypercat Drina Boban. 
Fresh off her TriOne Sprint Triathlon win, Drina cruised to the finish posting an 8th place F30-34 performance. 

Ironman Wisconsin
Hypercat Greg Nixon gave it a valiant "go" at Ironman Wisconsin, Sunday. Despite a mid season bike crash that made it virtually impossible to swim, Greg successfully completed the 2.4 swim. He then rode over 90 miles of the bike, before the effects of a crash at mile 8 caused him to pull-out. Greg  has already signed up for the 2004 Ironman Wisconsin and is looking forward to going for it again!

9/1/03 
Kennedy scores another overall triathlon win
...this time at the Scoggins Valley Olympic Triathlon in Oregon. Kevin's 2:07:38 was 15 minutes ahead of the 2nd place finisher. Kevin is continuing his preparation to qualify for the ITU World Championships in New Zealand this December.

Thanks to all of the new and prospective athletes who attended the team meeting Thursday evening at the Chiro-Medical Group in San Francisco. 30+ folks showed their interest and enthusiasm in getting involved with bicycle racing.
With over 40 cyclists participated in last weekend's rides, an e-mail list approaching 100 members and a large group of new faces tonight, we are expecting great things for 2004.  Welcome to our newest team members:
