Dannon Duathlon National Championships

7/15/02 -

Hypercat athletes took on the tough 10k run, 40k bike and 5k run of the Dannon Duathlon National Championships and came away with strong performances.  The Hypercat ladies showed their mettle with Bobbie LaPorte, Edith Chan, Jamie Sandidge and Rachel Sears all toughing it out in Carlsbad.

Bobbie LaPorte started her race off with a all-time personal best 10k...an impressive feat on this challenging run course.
Bobbie went on to face the leg sapping demons of the bike course and finished top 10 in her age group, with a 3:15:12.
Great job Bobbie! Bobbie is currently participating in the Paradise Ride in Hawaii...a multi-day cycling event to raise money to find cure for AIDS.

Edith Chan has been working with Coach Phil on her bike skills.  Clearly her hard work and training is paying off. Edith won the Athena category and placed 3rd in her age group to qualify for the 2002 ITU Duathlon Worlds this October in Alpharetta, GA.  Edith posted improvements on each segment of her race to cut a huge chunk of time off her 2001 finish.  Congratulations Edith!

Hypercat Jamie Sandidge has been busy all season challenging herself in new and different ways. After taking on the grueling Sierra Challenge Adventure Race (25 hours of racing!), Jamie was able to recover and take on Dannon.
Jamie also qualified for Team USA with her 2:33:19...good for a solid 6th place at this National Championship race.
Jamie's next race is the Half-Vineman triathlon on 8/4/02.

Coach Rachel Sears worked hard throughout the race, showing improvement over 2001 to earn herself a 9th place finish in the pro field.  Rachel also earned a coveted slot on Team USA and will compete at the ITU Duathlon World Championships this October.  This will be Rachel's fourth National team appearance, but her debut as a professional.
Rachel's next race is the Half-Vineman triathlon on 8/4/02.
