Californian Hypercats on the prowl!
San Jose International and the Danskin Women's triathlon were contested
over the past weekend. Once again Hypercat athletes made their
presence known!
Finishing up his Ironman Austria
preparations, Kevin Kennedy posted an impressive 4th place finish M25-29
in this deeply competitive field. Kevin posted the 2nd fastest bike
and run splits on route to a 2:00:37 clocking. Kevin departs at the
end of this week for Austria where he tackles his 12th Ironman on July
7th. Good luck Kev!
Also with Ironman aspirations, Chuck Morganson, put some pep into his
training at the San Jose International race. Chuck improved 25+
minutes over last year's time to finish in 2:34:44.
Chuck will take on Ironman Lake Placid in NY next month.
In only his second season in triathlon,
Hypercat's latest addition, Bob Avey cranked out a 2:29:30! Way to
go Bob!
Leading the female charge at San Jose was
speedster, Tanya Grossman. Tanya has already posted an impressive season
of finishes (7th at Wildflower, 9th at USAT Lake Placid Age Group
Qualifier & 2nd at the Keahou Kona Half). She adds another solid
result, finishing San Jose in 2:12:00 and 4th in the F25-29 age
group.
Tanya posted the 2nd fastest bike split in her age group. Tanya is
preparing for Ironman Canada.
Congratulations also are in order for Hypercat friend, Hal Rosenberg on
his 2:29:00 finish. Go Hal!
While triathletes were heating things up in
San Jose, the sun and competitive fires were burning deep in the city of
West Sacramento. This year marked econd running of the Danskin
Women's Triathlon. Nearly 1500 women took to the water, roads and paths of
the Capitol City.
Hypercat athletes, Jamie Sandidge and Rachel Sears both returned to
Danskin to better their performances of 2001. Both athletes, not only
repeated as champions of their respective categories, but also improved
their overall times.
Jamie finished in 1:19:00 and was 1st F20-24.
Jamie improved on her bike, run and transition times, to take charge and
win her age group.
Jamie will mix things up as part of a co-ed adventure racing team that
will test their mettle on 6/29.
Rachel competed in the Shriners 8k on Saturday in Sacramento, a PAUSATF
Grand Prix event. Her finish time of 30:59 was an all time 8k PR and
good for 8th in her age group. Rachel then went on Sunday to repeat
as the Danskin overall race winner in 1:12:11.
Posting the fastest bike and run splits to win the race, Rachel crossed
the finish with a 2:22 margin over friend/competitor, Andi Smith. Rachel's
next event is the Alcatraz Challenge on 6/30.
